Selling Advertising on Your Website

Advertising On Your Website

There are many different ways for you to sell advertising on your website. The two main approaches for it, however, are:

  • Adserving
  • "Fixed" Advertising (for lack of a better term)

Third-Party Adserving Solutions

Many people go with a third-party adserving solution. This saves you the hassle of finding potential advertisers. There are many different payment options for these ad servers and a simple search on your favourite search engine can give you the info on this.

Your Own ad Server

Programming an ad-server (as with most software and web solutions) is easy stuff. If you have the resources within your company, or if you're willing to contract someone to get it done, then you will be able to have your own ad serving tool on your website. Let me repeat, it's easy to do for any decent programmer so don't get overwhelmed by the potential costs of setting it up.

The benefits are, of course, less long-term costs.

"Static" Ads

This would be the type of advertising that would be done with few advertisers and a bit of knowledge of how to edit web pages. You would simply get an advertisier or two for the month (or the next six months), write the bill and then manually add the picture (or text) for the advert to the page(s) on your website.

This, too, can be automated however (i.e. where you don't have to manually edit the page but simply upload "this month's adverts" for example) and is also very easy to program.

Making Money on the Internet

Aside from selling your own services and products online, selling advertising on your site (especially if it is a successful one with lots of visitors per month) is another option for making money online.

Selling advertising on your website can also help to offset some of the development costs for the site.
